Roses are a very beautiful type of flower. The rose usually symbolizes beauty, hope, and new beginnings while the stem and thorns of the rose expresses loss and defense. Tupac states that when people see a rose grow from concrete trying to survive they will be amazed ,"you would marvel at just seeing a rose grow through concrete." however once its a ghetto kid they will always bring back the dirty stems and how they are still leaning crooked to the side. This sentence basically means that no matter how much you try to come up, society will always try to find the negative and not see that the ghetto kid is trying to rise above that.
In the "Rose from Concrete" Tupac uses imagery of a rose growing from concrete to compare a ghetto kid growing out of bad circumstances to a rose immersing from concrete. Tupac uses an analogy to compare himself to a rose. The rose is a metaphor that symbolizes the strength and perseverance within Tupac. The concrete represents the ghetto he grew up in. Through this comparison Tupac suggests that people are more amazed by the rose than the human. No matter how inspirational Tupac is to many people, others will always associate him as just another "ghetto kid'.
It may not seem ideal considering that even after all your efforts you have people saying it's not enough and looking at you like you're still the "ghetto kid" from the hood. Based of the statements made by Tupac the American dream is only fit for those already living it. I agree with what Tupac states in his poem, because being an American citizen usually entitles you the freedom to be whoever you want to be, that usually makes an individual stand out from the rest, but as soon as someone as unique as Tupac comes along that speaks his truth effortlessly and beautifully we make it a fact to point out all the supposed "character flaws" that make him imperfect. Instead of just admiring his distinct personality that makes him a rare person to come across and admire. The overall purpose of the poem is for people to open their eyes to how messed up America is.
