Frederick Douglass was an African-American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. Before many of his greatest and well known successes Douglass was a slave. After being brutally beaten and worked to exhaustion by the man he was rented out to as a slave, Frederick Douglass runs back to his "master" to complain and hopefully remedy the situation.Disobeying the head person in charge isn’t good from a slaves perspective. There’s a high chance they may die or suffer horrible consequences.
Throughout history there have been many individuals who didn't stay quiet and they did whatever they could to stand up for what they believed in and fought for what was right. Following the rules wouldn't get you to that outcome. There are certain times in life where going above a figure of authority is the right thing to do. Frederick Douglass was one who was brave enough to s.peak up He went to his old master to let him know that he has been brutally beaten. He knew he could have been killed however he still managed to get to his old master. Douglass really had nothing left to lose. He was worn out, beaten, and finally had enough.September 3, 1838. Douglass gained his freedom if he wouldnt have done this coraugeous brave act he would still be in the plantation getting beaten.
If Douglass never went through slavery he may not of become the powerful influencer that he became. Even though going against a figure of authority may sometimes have many consequences, a lot of the times it comes with something positive. Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands when you want a change. Going over the person in charge is very risky but it's better than waiting around for someone to speak up, be the bold person. His actions saved him and led him to ultimately become a free man which lead up to the emancipation proclamation, that declared all men equal.
